Before the Run

Athletes have the option to drop off their spare clothing and shoes in Velden and Pörtschach, and they will receive them back at the finish area. For organizational reasons, only clothing placed in the specially designed and numbered starter bags can be accepted and transported.

Starter bags can be handed over to the bag-drop assistants from 6:30 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. (Quarter Marathon) and until 8:45 a.m. (Half Marathon.

Once stored, bags can only be collected in the finish area at the Strandbad parking lot, and only by the runners themselves upon presentation of their race bib.
The organizer assumes no liability for deposited items.

Any bags not collected will be stored at the Info Corner on Sunday afternoon.

Participants can easily take the train from the new Klagenfurt West station to the start in Pörtschach or Velden. Your race bib serves as a valid ticket for travel from Klagenfurt to Velden.
From Running City, it is approximately a 10-minute walk to the bus stop/train station Klagenfurt West.

All information on train schedules can be found in the section Athlete Info – Athlete Shuttle.

A new overflow parking area is available at the Klagenfurt West train station.
In addition, runners may park at the Minimundus parking lot and near the University of Klagenfurt.

Attention: Some parking spaces at the Minimundus parking lot are designated as short-term parking zones!

During the Run

Along the course and at the finish area, Red Cross emergency vehicles and an emergency doctor team are on standby.
The medical center is located in the Red Cross tent in the Running City and is available whenever needed.

Open Questions

The competitions take place on public roads and paths that are normally open to traffic.
Participant safety is ensured through temporary official closures of these roads and paths, monitored by personnel deployed by the organizer.

If it becomes apparent that a participant will not be able to complete the course within the period of official closure and supervision, authorized staff members may instruct the participant to end the race. In this case, for safety reasons, the race bib will be invalidated. Further participation, even at one’s own risk, is not permitted.

Kärnten Läuft – Wörthersee Half Marathon

For the Wörthersee Half Marathon, the following maximum split times apply at the checkpoints defined by the organizer.
If a participant does not pass a checkpoint within the required time limit, authorized staff members may remove the participant from the race.

  • Checkpoint km 9.4: latest passing time 10:45 a.m.
  • Checkpoint km 15.8: latest passing time 11:40 a.m.

There are alternative routes and bypass options along almost the entire section between Velden and Krumpendorf. However, in some areas the race course must be completely closed for safety reasons. The route will be reopened as soon as possible.
Please refer to the detailed road closure information on our website under ROAD CLOSURES.

On Friday at 8:00 p.m., the official Kärnten Läuft opening ceremony will take place. Afterwards, a top cabaret artist performs their show each year — free of charge.

The event program booklet is available in the Running City at the Klagenfurt Metnitzstrand (next to the public beach) at the Kleine Zeitung Info Counter.
It is also included in the Kleine Zeitung newspaper on the Thursday before Kärnten Läuft.

Runners born in 2011 or later must request an exceptional permission from the organizer through their parents (via anmeldung@mjk-sportmarketing.com).
Proof of previously completed Half Marathon or Quarter Marathon races is required.

Timekeeping

If you believe that something is incorrect with your result, please contact the timing team on-site (next to the main stage). A staff member will record your claim and handle it as quickly as possible. Please understand that processing or correcting a result may not always be possible immediately. In any case, you will be informed about the correction by phone or email.

If you need to file a claim after the event day, please send your request exclusively by email to: timing@maxfunsports.com

Thanks to the timing tag integrated in the race bib, there is no need to pay a deposit or rent a separate chip.
Picking up your starter bag on-site is therefore much faster and easier.
Without your race bib, no timing is possible.

Your race bib also contains a QR code that you can easily scan with a suitable app on your smartphone right after the race. This allows you to instantly access your time and results, including your age-group ranking

Timing System

Timing for all Kärnten Läuft races is provided by MaxFun Timing.
The timing transponders – the so-called RFID tags – are integrated into the race bibs.

Important: ChampionChips cannot be read by the MaxFun Timing system and therefore cannot be used.
There are no additional costs for participants.
Without a race bib, no timing is possible.

At the start and finish, special timing mats are installed. When you cross these mats, the RFID tag in your bib is detected.
Your time starts when you cross the start mat and stops when you cross the finish mat.

To be included in the official final results, participants must cross all timing mats on the course.

Each participant receives their race bib with an integrated timing tag at race packet pickup. This race bib is registered exclusively to the participant and to the event they registered for, and cannot be used by anyone else.
No chip return is required.

Every race bib with an RFID tag is checked for proper function when handed out. Each participant is responsible for using the correct bib that is registered to them.

When attaching the race bib, make sure not to damage the timing tag with safety pins.
If the official race bib is altered in any way—especially if sponsor logos or printed information are made invisible or unrecognizable—the participant will be excluded from the timing results (disqualified).
